‘When Doves Cry’ was written by Prince and was released on his 1984 album ‘Purple Rain’, which was the soundtrack album to the film of the same name. The track’s prominent drum beat was sampled by Grimes (Canadian musician Claire Boucher) on ‘Colour Of Moonlight (Antiochus)’ from her 2012 album ‘Visions’, which featured fellow musician Doldrums.
